Burn the Pile

Terms of use

Last updated: October 18, 2026. Operator: Christopher Plante, Montreal (Quebec). Contact: hello@burnthepile.com.

The service

Burn the Pile provides grading suggestions generated by artificial intelligence. These suggestions may contain errors: the teacher remains solely responsible for the grades given and must review the results before using them.

Pages and payments

Packs are one-time purchases in Canadian dollars. A graded page counts as 1 page in quick mode and for language checks, and as 2 pages in in-depth mode; the answer key is not charged, and a failed grading or a paper found illegible is not counted. Purchased pages do not expire while the service is offered. Unused pages are refundable on request within 30 days of purchase. The 30 free-trial pages are valid for 90 days.

Access key

Your key gives access to your balance: keep it confidential. We may deactivate a key in case of abuse.

Acceptable use

The service is for grading schoolwork. Attempting to circumvent or overload it, or using it for unlawful content, is prohibited.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount paid in the previous 12 months.

Schools and school boards

Schools and school boards that want a written agreement (personal information processing, invoicing, key management) can write to hello@burnthepile.com.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Quebec and of Canada. They do not limit the rights you have under consumer protection laws.
